Assurance Manager - General Merchandise

About the role

Kmart is looking for an Assurance Manager to join its Product Quality team and strengthen quality and risk management across the General Merchandise product lifecycle. The role sits in the Chadstone area and involves leading assurance activities across high-risk product categories and suppliers.

Key responsibilities

• Design and embed a scalable general merchandise assurance framework aligned with quality risk management principles.
• Lead assurance activities across high-risk product categories and suppliers.
• Run thematic reviews, deep-dives and control validation exercises to find gaps and improvement opportunities.
• Use data and quality insights, including complaints, returns, audits and testing outcomes, to spot emerging risks.
• Provide independent assessments and recommendations that strengthen governance, controls and risk management.
• Build governance reporting, dashboards and insights for senior stakeholders.
• Support continuous improvement to reduce product safety incidents, quality failures and control weaknesses.

Required profile

• 7+ years' experience in assurance, audit, risk management or control testing environments.
• Experience designing and delivering assurance programs across complex business functions.
• Ability to independently challenge stakeholders while building collaborative relationships.
• Strong communication skills, able to turn complex findings into practical business recommendations.

Required skills

• Strong understanding of control frameworks, risk assessment methodologies and assurance practices.
• Using data and insights to detect patterns, prioritise risk and support decisions.
• Experience assessing controls in product quality, sourcing, supplier management or operational risk is highly regarded.
