About the role
The Associate/Technical Director, Technical Specialist – Bulk Materials Handling will join Aurecon’s Industrial Mechanical team in Perth. You will lead the design and delivery of bulk materials handling systems for mining, ports and industrial infrastructure, ensuring safe, efficient and practical solutions.
Key responsibilities
- Lead studies, concept development and detailed design for bulk materials handling systems across mining, ports and industrial projects.
- Provide technical leadership for receiving, transferring and storage systems, including conveyors, train load‑outs, complex machines, transfer chutes and stockyards.
- Develop solutions focused on iron‑ore operations, using first‑principles engineering and specialist software.
- Oversee material‑flow analysis and DEM simulations for chute design and conveyor optimisation.
- Integrate mechanical, structural, civil and electrical inputs to deliver complete, constructible solutions.
- Build trusted client relationships, lead technical discussions and mentor engineering teams throughout project phases.
Required profile
- Extensive experience in bulk materials handling projects, especially within iron‑ore, mining or heavy industrial sectors.
- Strong technical expertise in conveyor systems, transfer chutes, receiving, storage and stockyard equipment.
- Proven track record leading feasibility studies, trade‑off assessments and detailed engineering packages.
- Practical experience with conveyor design software and reviewing DEM simulations.
- Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership, mentor teams and deliver multidisciplinary outcomes.
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline with appropriate professional accreditation.
