Associate Director - Project Architect

About the role

As an Associate Director – Project Architect you will lead the design and delivery of complex defence, research and nuclear infrastructure projects in highly regulated environments. You will provide architectural leadership across multidisciplinary teams, ensuring design intent is maintained from concept through to delivery while meeting safety and operational requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Lead architectural design and delivery of complex, safety‑critical facilities.
• Act as Project Architect, coordinating architectural, structural, services and specialist systems.
• Translate nuclear safety case and regulatory requirements into robust design solutions.
• Oversee design development, technical documentation and compliance with Defence, NCC, IAEA and other nuclear frameworks.
• Engage with clients and stakeholders to align project objectives and expectations.

Required profile

• Accredited degree in Architecture with registration or eligibility in Australia.
• 10–15+ years of architectural experience, including leadership on safety‑critical projects.
• Proven experience as Project Architect or Principal Consultant on medium to large‑scale projects.
• Australian citizenship or eligibility for AUKUS clearance; NSQEP recognition is highly regarded.

Required skills

• Architectural design for defence, research and nuclear facilities.
• Knowledge of Defence design standards, NCC, IAEA and related regulatory frameworks.
• Safety‑in‑design principles, human factors and complex systems integration.
• Multidisciplinary design coordination and technical documentation.
