Associate Director, Communications

About the role

The Associate Director, Communications will lead strategic external communications for Housing Australia, reporting to the Director, Communications. This senior business‑partner role shapes the organisation’s narrative, enhances its reputation and builds stakeholder trust across Australia.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute strategic communications and media plans, ensuring coordinated responses to emerging issues.
• Create high‑quality external communications, including media releases, digital content and social‑media posts to support program milestones and product launches.
• Provide proactive, strategic advice to senior stakeholders on messaging and reputation management.
• Manage end‑to‑end media engagement, building relationships with outlets, responding to enquiries and identifying opportunities.
• Monitor media coverage, sentiment and emerging issues to inform communication strategies.
• Maintain consistency and integrity of the Housing Australia brand across all external channels.
• Continuously improve communication tools and outputs using data and best‑practice insights.

Required profile

• Strong capability in media relations and reputation risk management.
• Proven experience creating external communications across media, digital and social platforms.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence senior leaders.
• Demonstrated leadership in managing small teams and fostering high‑performance culture.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication, with the ability to tailor messaging for diverse audiences.
