About the role
A permanent, hands-on Assistant Production Manager is sought to support the Production Manager in running day-to-day production operations, driving efficiency, quality and on-time delivery. It is a floor-based leadership role with about 50 people under your influence, including 5 team leaders, and offers a clear succession and progression pathway. The role suits someone already at Assistant Production Manager / 2IC level, not a first-time step up.
Key responsibilities
- Plan and schedule daily production to meet on-time, in-full delivery and quality standards
- Coordinate labour planning, rostering and labour forecasting
- Monitor performance data and coach teams to hit daily efficiency and quality targets
- Support Lean/CI ways of working and continuous improvement on the floor, including 5S
- Apply HACCP principles and control non-conformances and corrective actions
- Partner with service and customer teams so feedback is acted on promptly
- Help with recruitment, onboarding, training and performance management, including engagement with agencies
- Work with Engineering on equipment uptime and maintenance schedules
- Ensure compliance with WHS policies, procedures and reporting requirements
Required profile
- Proven rostering, scheduling and labour forecasting experience in manufacturing (FMCG highly regarded)
- People leadership: coaching, performance management and leading team leaders
- Understanding of production operations and service/quality delivery
- Exposure to budgeting and labour cost control
- Comfortable engaging with recruitment partners and agencies
- Commitment to safety and legal/WHS compliance
- Intermediate Microsoft Office skills (Excel desirable); current driver's licence
Required skills
- Lean / continuous improvement tools such as 5S
- Systems exposure: SAP / XCM
- Spindle (laundry operations / workforce software)
