Assistant Buyer

About the role

We are looking for a detail‑driven Assistant Buyer to join STRAND’s Buying team at our Pyrmont head office. Working closely with the Buyer, you will support the full buying cycle – from product development and trend research to range building and delivery – in a fast‑paced fashion retail environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide day‑to‑day administrative support across the assigned category.
• Assist in product development, trend research and competitor analysis.
• Manage and track the critical path to ensure on‑time delivery of merchandise.
• Create and maintain accurate product data, including SKU setup and pricing.
• Coordinate samples, approvals and maintain the sample room.
• Support range reviews and preparation for key buying meetings.
• Liaise with suppliers and internal teams to ensure smooth workflow.
• Help with reporting, sales analysis and trading insights.
• Contribute to ad‑hoc projects across the Buying team.

Required profile

• 1–2 years of experience in an Assistant Buyer or similar role.
• Previous experience in retail or fashion is highly regarded.
• Strong organisational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
• Excellent communication and a collaborative approach.
• Passion for product, trends and the retail industry.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
