Assistant Accountant (Accounts Receivable Focus)

About the role

A well-established organisation, represented by its recruiter, is looking for an experienced Assistant Accountant / Accountant with an accounts receivable focus for a 3-month temporary position, subject to extension. The role is based in the Western Sydney office and is hands-on, ensuring timely and accurate collection of outstanding debts. Payroll experience is a bonus, as only part of the fortnightly payroll needs to be managed (mainly cross-checking adjustments).

Key responsibilities

• Manage debtors collections proactively and follow up on outstanding accounts to support cash flow.
• Post receipts accurately and review debtor accounts.
• Prepare and report on intercompany charges and journal entries.
• Carry out month-end duties including accruals, sales rebates, inventory and reporting, and integrated group reporting on a monthly and quarterly basis.
• Support the payroll vendor implementation project with HR, and help manage payroll tax, payroll reports and GL reconciliations (payroll is outsourced and can be taught).
• Perform ad hoc duties as required.

Required profile

• Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Accounting and Finance, or equivalent qualification or relevant work experience.
• Proven experience in a similar role, specifically handling the accounts receivable function.
• Payroll experience is a bonus.
• Experience with large ERP systems such as Navision, SAP or others.
• Excellent communication skills and a confident approach to collections and internal stakeholder management.
