Assessment Officer

About the role

The Assessment Officer will conduct comprehensive assessments of health service complaints and notifications for the Office of the Health Ombudsman. This role involves determining appropriate actions in line with the Health Ombudsman Act 2013 and handling sensitive personal health information.

Key responsibilities

• Tri‑age complaints and notifications to identify issues, assess risk, set priorities and determine required assessment activities.
• Issue statutory notices to obtain information needed for decision‑making.
• Maintain comprehensive case files in accordance with legislative and organisational requirements.
• Prepare correspondence and reports applying best‑practice administrative decision‑making principles.
• Establish and nurture relationships with internal stakeholders to ensure seamless service delivery.
• Contribute ideas for continuous improvement of complaint‑handling processes and resources.
• Participate in quality‑assurance reviews of the OHO.
• Perform other triage and assessment activities as directed.

Required profile

• Understanding of the Queensland health environment (desirable).
• Relevant tertiary qualification (desirable).
• Ability to handle sensitive and potentially vulnerable consumer information.
• Willingness to undergo criminal history and disciplinary checks as required by the Public Sector Act.
