Anaesthetic Nurse - Registered Nurse

About the role

Sydney Local Health District is recruiting a Registered Nurse to work as an assistant to the anaesthetist at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPAH), established in 1882. The position is temporary, full time (38 hours per week) or part time (minimum 24 hours per week), until July 2027 with possible extension, and pays $41.22-$57.88 per hour plus superannuation.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare the environment and equipment for patients and for administering anaesthesia
• Receive patients into the anaesthesia/operating room and build rapport by asking and answering questions
• Take part in anaesthesia check-in processes, such as the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist, including checking identification and consent where required
• Take part in other safety checks, such as regional anaesthesia block time-outs
• Share relevant patient information with the intra-operative team, including nurses and doctors
• Discuss the planned anaesthesia approach and alternatives, including equipment needs, with the anaesthetist
• Assist with patient preparation and monitoring, and help maintain the patient's physical, psychological safety and comfort
• Support the anaesthetist throughout and after the procedure, including during emergence, transfer and any emergencies

Required profile

• Current nursing registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA)
• Demonstrated experience in anaesthetics
• Evidence of professional development and willingness to share expertise with colleagues
• Able to work a 7-day rotating roster
• Full working rights in Australia
