Accounting Intern - Sydney

About the role

An accounting firm in Sydney is looking for a motivated, detail-oriented Accounting Intern to join its accounting and finance team. The internship is unpaid and part-time, running 12 weeks at 3 days per week, and suits Accounting, Finance or Commerce students and recent graduates who want hands-on Australian industry experience.

Key responsibilities

• Gain exposure to bookkeeping and general accounting procedures
• Assist with bank reconciliations and financial record-keeping under supervision
• Learn about accounts payable and accounts receivable processes
• Support the preparation of financial reports and working papers
• Gain exposure to BAS, GST and Australian taxation procedures
• Develop practical skills using Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks
• Assist with financial data entry and documentation
• Learn about Australian accounting standards and compliance requirements
• Participate in supervised accounting and finance projects

Required profile

• Currently studying or recently completed Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related qualification
• Located in Sydney
• Valid visa allowing internship participation; international students are welcome
• Previous accounting experience is advantageous but not essential

Required skills

• Basic understanding of accounting principles
• Good Microsoft Excel skills
• Familiarity with Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks is advantageous
• Strong numerical and analytical skills, attention to detail and good written and verbal communication
