Accounting Intern - Melbourne

About the role

A professional accounting and finance team in Melbourne is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Accounting Intern. The position suits Accounting, Finance or Commerce students and recent graduates who want practical Australian industry experience in bookkeeping, financial reporting, taxation, reconciliations and accounting software. It is an unpaid, part-time internship of 12 weeks, three days per week.

Key responsibilities

• Gain exposure to bookkeeping and general accounting procedures
• Assist with bank reconciliations and financial record-keeping under supervision
• Learn about accounts payable and accounts receivable processes
• Support the preparation of financial reports and working papers
• Gain exposure to BAS, GST and Australian taxation procedures
• Develop practical skills using Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks
• Assist with financial data entry and documentation
• Learn about Australian accounting standards and compliance requirements
• Participate in supervised accounting and finance projects

Required profile

• Currently studying or recently completed Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related qualification
• Located in Melbourne
• Valid visa allowing internship participation; international students are welcome
• Previous accounting experience is advantageous but not essential

Required skills

• Basic understanding of accounting principles
• Good Microsoft Excel skills
• Familiarity with Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks is advantageous
• Strong numerical and analytical skills, attention to detail and good written and verbal communication
