Aboriginal Health Practitioner

About the role

The Aboriginal Health Practitioner works with health care teams to provide culturally safe, holistic, person-centred clinical care, health education and promotion for Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people in Western Australia. The position is open to casual, permanent and fixed-term appointments, with possible extension and/or permanency, at various hours. It is a full-time role in the Mid West Region.

Key responsibilities

• Work with health care teams to deliver culturally safe, holistic, person-centred clinical care, health education and promotion.
• Provide primary health care to Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people across all settings.
• Work within the practitioner's scope of practice, taking account of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practice Board of Australia professional capabilities.

Required profile

• Must be of Aboriginal descent and registered with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practice Board of Australia.
• Experience working with Aboriginal people to provide primary health care across all settings.
• Valid working visa (fixed term) or Australian citizenship, permanent residency and indefinite visa (permanent).
• Complete a satisfactory pre-employment health assessment; criminal records screening and integrity checking are also required.

Required skills

• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
