1st Year Apprentice Heavy Vehicle Mechanic

About the role

The 1st Year Apprentice Heavy Vehicle Mechanic will support a team of automotive trades staff in maintaining the safety, reliability and performance of Transdev John Holland Buses' fleet. Work will be based across three depots in Sydney (Port Botany, Randwick and Waverley) and include on‑the‑job training and TAFE study.

Key responsibilities

• Assist qualified tradespeople with repair, servicing, maintenance and inspection of buses and ancillary vehicles.
• Carry out repairs on engines, transmissions, drivelines, ignition, electrical, brake, steering and suspension systems.
• Support spare‑parts issuing, workshop cleaning and operate light machinery such as pedestrian forklift, yard scrubber, floor scrubber and bin lifter.
• Accurately record maintenance information using computer‑based systems.

Required profile

• Interest in the automotive industry with some hands‑on mechanical experience.
• Current NSW driver’s licence (Ps accepted) and willingness to upgrade to HR licence if required.
• Commitment to a 4‑year apprenticeship including TAFE study at Wetherill Park.
• Ability to obtain a National Police Check, medical screening and provide proof of work rights.

Required skills

• Use of hand and power tools for automotive work.
• Diagnosing and repairing ignition, electrical, brake, steering and suspension systems.
• Operating light machinery (pedestrian forklift, yard scrubber, floor scrubber, bin lifter).
• Computer literacy for accurate maintenance record entry.
