Specialist Pharmacist – Alcohol & Drug Services

About the role

The Specialist Pharmacist provides expert clinical pharmacy services within the Alcohol and Drug Service of the Department of Health Tasmania. Working on‑site as part of a multidisciplinary team, the pharmacist optimises patient outcomes in the Pharmacotherapy and Inpatient Withdrawal Units.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver specialist clinical pharmacy care to patients in the Pharmacotherapy and Inpatient Withdrawal Units.
• Dispense and dose medications for Pharmacotherapy patients on a daily basis and for patients being discharged from the Inpatient Withdrawal Units.
• Act as a resource pharmacist for the area of specialty, providing evidence‑based medication advice.
• Provide education and information to staff and clients on consumer medication information.
• Work weekends and public holidays as required and adhere to Alcohol and Drug policies.

Required profile

• Registered pharmacist with specialist knowledge of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs.
• Strong teamwork and multidisciplinary collaboration skills.
• Willingness to work on‑site only; remote work not applicable.
• Availability for shift work, including weekends and public holidays.
• Fixed‑term part‑time appointment (32 hours per fortnight) until 4 January 2027.
