About the role
The Specialist Pharmacist provides expert clinical pharmacy services within the Alcohol and Drug Service of the Department of Health Tasmania. Working on‑site as part of a multidisciplinary team, the pharmacist optimises patient outcomes in the Pharmacotherapy and Inpatient Withdrawal Units.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver specialist clinical pharmacy care to patients in the Pharmacotherapy and Inpatient Withdrawal Units.
- Dispense and dose medications for Pharmacotherapy patients on a daily basis and for patients being discharged from the Inpatient Withdrawal Units.
- Act as a resource pharmacist for the area of specialty, providing evidence‑based medication advice.
- Provide education and information to staff and clients on consumer medication information.
- Work weekends and public holidays as required and adhere to Alcohol and Drug policies.
Required profile
- Registered pharmacist with specialist knowledge of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs.
- Strong teamwork and multidisciplinary collaboration skills.
- Willingness to work on‑site only; remote work not applicable.
- Availability for shift work, including weekends and public holidays.
- Fixed‑term part‑time appointment (32 hours per fortnight) until 4 January 2027.
Required skills
- Specialist knowledge of alcohol, tobacco and other drug pharmacotherapy.
- Clinical pharmacy practice and medication management.
- Dispensing and dose calculation.
- Patient education and consumer medication information delivery.

- Salary range $110,425 – $121,097 pro rata per annum (AUD) plus 12% superannuation.
