Senior Lawyer – Australian Resources Company

About the role

Our client, a listed multi‑national resources company, is seeking a senior lawyer to join its Australian legal team. Reporting to the Head of Legal, the role will oversee legal, regulatory and commercial matters for the company's operations in Australia.

Key responsibilities

• Advise the CEO and Board on legal and regulatory matters relating to Australian operations.
• Lead complex negotiations with partners, governmental authorities and industry bodies.
• Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory obligations, including Australian environmental standards.
• Identify business opportunities and provide strategic commercial guidance.
• Improve internal processes for contracting, procurement and risk management to increase efficiency and mitigate risk.
• Manage disputes and ensure appropriate WHS policies and procedures are in place.
• Support the ESG team on sustainability, decarbonisation, stakeholder engagement and diversity and inclusion.

Required profile

• Law degree and admission to practice in an Australian jurisdiction with a current, unrestricted practising certificate (or eligibility to apply immediately).
• Minimum 7 years post‑admission experience in the mining and resources sector, gained in a leading law firm or in‑house legal team.
• Exceptional communication skills and ability to engage effectively at all levels.
• Leadership skills with the ability to manage and influence stakeholders.
• Strong commercial and financial acumen.
