Senior Engineer - Waste & Resource Recovery

About the role

SMEC, part of Surbana Jurong, is looking for an experienced or senior engineer for its Waste team, which can be based in Sydney or Wollongong. The role suits someone with landfill design experience or a construction-focused background who enjoys technical delivery, leading projects and developing client relationships. With a minimum of 4+ years' experience, you will help deliver waste, resource recovery and recycling infrastructure design and construction management projects.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and deliver landfill and waste infrastructure design projects (containment cells, capping, lining systems, transfer stations, organic processing facilities, leachate and gas infrastructure)
• Oversee GITA/construction phase services, including contract administration, superintendent roles, quality assurance and site supervision
• Manage projects and provide engineering input for waste infrastructure such as landfills, recycling facilities and resource recovery centres
• Build and maintain relationships with clients and key stakeholders, and drive business development
• Mentor and support junior team members

Required profile

• Environmental or Civil Engineering qualification, or similar
• 4+ years' experience, ideally in the landfill and waste industry
• Proven project management and client relationship management capability
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Some site-related work experience
• Landfill design or civil infrastructure experience highly regarded
