Technical Director – Design Management, Building Engineering

About the role

Lead technical strategy and manage multidisciplinary design teams for major sports infrastructure projects in Brisbane. Serve as the primary client interface, translating operational requirements into technical briefs and overseeing the full design lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Integrate large multidisciplinary teams across architecture, civils, structural, MEP, fire, security, acoustics and specialist consultants.
• Develop front‑end design strategy, execution plans, risk registers and programme controls from concept to detailed design.
• Manage programme, commercial and governance obligations, ensuring compliance with Defence standards and regulatory controls.
• Provide technical leadership, chair design reviews, resolve cross‑discipline conflicts and ensure buildability, safety and long‑term asset performance.

Required profile

• Ideally 20+ years of experience with a strong technical grounding before moving into design management.
• Relevant degree in Architecture, Mechanical, Electrical or Structural Engineering with appropriate memberships/registrations.
• Proven track record delivering complex sports infrastructure projects (stadiums, precincts).
• Experience leading full design teams and acting as Design Manager/Consultants Representative.
