Principal Structural Drafter – Roads & Highways

About the role

SMEC is seeking a Principal Structural Drafter to lead technical drafting on complex roads and highway projects. You will work within a multidisciplinary consulting team, delivering high‑quality structural documentation that supports successful project delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Provide senior technical drafting leadership across Roads & Highways projects.
• Produce, coordinate and review structural drawings to ensure accuracy, compliance and consistency.
• Supervise and approve drafting outputs, managing digital delivery across design disciplines.
• Manage workloads, priorities and deadlines to meet programme and budget requirements.
• Mentor and develop drafting team members, promoting best practices in digital design.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers and clients to achieve quality outcomes.

Required profile

• Minimum 17 years of experience in structural drafting for roads, highways or major transport infrastructure.
• Proven ability to lead technical outcomes on complex projects.
• Strong collaborative approach with focus on quality and client satisfaction.
