Head of Design

About the role

Reporting to the VP of Product, the Head of Design is the senior design leader responsible for the overall design discipline, the ELMO design system, and design quality across the product organisation. You will lead a team of Sydney and Melbourne‑based product designers, working within cross‑functional squads to deliver AI‑accelerated, user‑centric experiences.

Key responsibilities

• Directly manage five mid‑ and senior‑level product designers, setting career pathways and hiring standards.
• Own the usability, accessibility (WCAG AA) and consistency of all product interfaces.
• Develop, maintain and evolve the ELMO design system across web, conversational and multi‑modal platforms.
• Collaborate with product, engineering and research teams to integrate AI‑driven design solutions.
• Champion design best practices, mentorship and continuous learning within the team.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in product design, preferably within SaaS or HR technology.
• Hands‑on design expertise with a strategic mindset.
• Strong understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG AA) and AI‑enabled design workflows.
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced, product‑led environment and influence cross‑functional squads.
