Director, Planning Group – Queensland

About the role

This senior leadership position within the Planning Group offers the chance to shape Queensland's planning framework, influence policy, and support critical infrastructure delivery. Based in Brisbane, the role balances strategic oversight with direct engagement with developers, local governments and the community.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and inspire a high‑performing team to deliver planning functions and services across the state.
• Coordinate the development and implementation of planning policies, legislation, local schemes and regional plans.
• Provide strategic advice and regional intelligence to senior executives and contribute to the division’s strategic objectives.
• Maintain strong collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies, developers and local planning officers.
• Ensure planning decisions are transparent, accountable and aligned with economic, land‑use and infrastructure priorities.
• Promote a safe, inclusive workplace that supports wellbeing, diversity and continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading empowered, highly engaged teams in a public‑sector or planning environment.
• Deep understanding of organisational objectives and the broader government agenda.
• Ability to anticipate priorities, develop long‑term plans and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
• Strong stakeholder management skills with a track record of building collaborative relationships.
