Cleansing Crew Operator – City Streets & Public Spaces

About the role

The Cleansing Crew Operator joins the City of Sydney’s Cleansing Operations team to keep footpaths, roadways, plazas and public precincts clean and vibrant. Each shift directly contributes to a safer, more attractive city for residents and visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Clean footpaths, roadways, plazas and public precincts using manual methods, pressure washing, and mechanical sweepers.
• Service street litter bins and remove bulk waste, including illegal dumping.
• Operate and maintain street sweepers, waste compactors and pressure‑cleaning equipment.
• Drive and operate Medium Rigid (MR) or Heavy Vehicle (HR) plant for waste removal tasks.
• Adapt to changing priorities and undertake additional tasks as directed.

Required profile

• Physically fit and able to perform demanding manual cleaning tasks.
• Current MR/HR driver’s licence with a clean driving record.
• Availability for weekday shifts, some weekends and public holidays.
• Ability to work safely with plant equipment and follow health‑safety procedures.

Required skills

• Operation of street sweepers and waste compactors.
• Use of pressure‑cleaning equipment.
• Manual street cleaning and bulk waste removal techniques.
• Medium Rigid or Heavy Vehicle (MR/HR) driver licence.
