Chief Executive of AFSA & Inspector-General in Bankruptcy

About the role

The Australian Government is seeking a senior leader to serve simultaneously as Chief Executive of the Australian Financial Security Authority (AFSA) and as Inspector‑General in Bankruptcy. The role oversees Australia’s personal insolvency system, the Personal Property Securities Register, and the administration of the Bankruptcy Act 1966.

Key responsibilities

• Set and drive AFSA’s strategic direction, ensuring regulatory effectiveness and high‑quality service delivery.
• Manage organisational performance, resources and stakeholder relationships across the agency.
• Oversee the general administration of the Bankruptcy Act, including regulatory, review and investigative functions.
• Lead complex operations within a highly regulated environment and represent the agency to government, industry and the public.

Required profile

• Demonstrated ability to manage large, complex organisations and regulatory frameworks.
• Strong judgment, communication skills and capacity to engage diverse audiences.
• High standards of professional and personal integrity.
• Experience in public administration, governance or senior executive roles within government or related sectors.

Required skills

• Knowledge of Australian personal insolvency and personal property securities legislation.
• Understanding of insolvency law and practice, regulatory systems and financial policy.
• Experience with stakeholder engagement and administrative decision‑making.

What we offer

• Full‑time appointment for an initial term of up to five years.
• Remuneration package of $564,950 per year, determined by the Remuneration Tribunal.
