Young Carer Support Coordinator - Peer Support

About the role

Little Dreamers is looking for a Young Carer Support Coordinator to provide key support to Young Carers in Peer Support programs across the Bundaberg, Mackay, Townsville and Cairns regions. Programs run online, in schools and at community venues. The role balances administrative work with hands-on delivery of responsive, individualised support.

Key responsibilities

• Use the Carer Support Framework and Carer Star to assess and plan, and conduct risk assessments including suicide and violence risk, with safety plans and follow-up support
• Provide Young Carers and their families with information on internal and external programs and referral pathways
• Facilitate in-person and online Peer Support Groups, adapting session plans to each group's needs and keeping venues ready
• Build groups of similar size and composition, and keep Young Carers informed about their allocation and attendance
• Enter information into Carelink and report on program delivery, outcomes and effectiveness to internal stakeholders
• Build relationships with community organisations and support groups, and collaborate with Carer Gateway consortia partners
• Carry out other duties as required by the Peer Support Manager

Required profile

• Experience in community services, allied health or carer/family peer positions
• Understanding of the caring role and evidence-based carer supports
• Experience coordinating individualised supports and delivering peer support programs to young people
• Strong organisational and interpersonal skills, including negotiation and problem-solving

Required skills

• Desirable: lived experience as a Young Carer, knowledge of the not-for-profit sector
• Advantageous: knowledge of the Carer Gateway In-Person Peer Support design and guidelines, the CHIME Framework, and experience using Carer Star
