Work Health and Safety Coordinator

About the role

Xavier College is seeking a proactive, knowledgeable and highly organised Work Health and Safety Coordinator to join its WHS team. The role supports the Work Health and Safety Team Leader in delivering operational WHS services so that students, staff, contractors and visitors are kept in a safe, compliant and supportive environment. It is a permanent full-time position based at the Gawler Belt campus, with regular travel between campuses expected.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and continuously improve WHS policies, procedures and initiatives across the College
• Advise, recommend and give practical guidance on WHS matters
• Investigate injuries, incidents, hazards, risks and near misses, and ensure corrective and preventative actions are taken
• Conduct and review risk assessments and implement control measures
• Carry out workplace inspections and audits to monitor compliance
• Deliver WHS inductions for staff, contractors, volunteers and visitors
• Support mandatory WHS training coordination and maintain accurate records
• Assist with Return to Work activities and contractor compliance (licences, insurances, clearances)
• Support the WHS Committee, including documentation, meeting support and action follow-up

Required profile

• Diploma in Work, Health & Safety (one year) or equivalent, or demonstrable knowledge and experience in a comparable role
• Knowledge of WHS legislation and policies
• Detail-oriented, organised and able to work collaboratively and autonomously in a busy environment
• Willingness to take part in required training and to respond calmly to emergencies

Required skills

• Excellent proficiency in MS Word and Excel
• Database competency
