Volunteer Companion – Heartfelt Chats & Home Visits

About the role

HammondCare, an independent Christian charity that supports people to stay in their homes and maintain their independence, is looking for warm-hearted volunteers across the Central Coast. The role involves weekly or fortnightly one-on-one social visits with an elderly person living at home, helping to reduce isolation and bring companionship.

Key responsibilities

• Visit the person you are matched with once a week or every two weeks for a one-hour chat.
• Listen to their memories and talk about what brings them joy, such as family, hobbies, past adventures and everyday moments.
• Bring comfort, a sense of belonging and a bright spot in their week through regular, friendly visits.

Required profile

• Aged 18 or older.
• Enjoys slowing down, sharing stories and connecting with older members of the community.
• Willingness to commit to one-hour visits for 6 months or longer.
• Availability between Monday and Sunday, 9am to 4pm; a suitable time can be discussed.

The volunteer police check is arranged and paid for by HammondCare. Interested applicants are contacted by phone or text, and then by email if needed; more information is available on the HammondCare volunteering website.
