Visiting Medical Officer - Orthopaedic Surgery

About the role

The Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) is recruiting a Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) in orthopaedic surgery for Griffith Base Hospital. The role delivers contemporary, evidence-based orthopaedic surgical services and provides clinical leadership, while supporting junior medical officers and other clinicians. It is a fee-for-service contract position; applications are made through eCredential and are reviewed on a rolling basis.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver safe, high-quality, patient-centred orthopaedic surgical care across MLHD
• Contribute to patient safety, quality improvement and risk management initiatives
• Supervise and support junior medical officers and other clinicians
• Foster effective multidisciplinary collaboration and use clinical information systems appropriately
• Participate in governance and departmental activities

Required profile

• Registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist Orthopaedic surgeon, or overseas-trained specialist pathways recognised by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons
• Demonstrated significant experience in orthopaedic surgery
• Ability to lead a team and work effectively in a multidisciplinary team
• Commitment to teaching, continuing education, research and quality improvement
• Availability to join an on-call roster and respond on site within a reasonable time
• Alignment with NSW Health CORE values and MLHD values
