Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Intern

About the role

The Animal Referral Hospital (ARH), part of Greencross Pet Wellness, is seeking a veterinarian for a 12-18 month Emergency and Critical Care internship based in its busy 24-hour emergency and referral hospital in Homebush. The program is designed and overseen by the experienced Emergency and Critical Care team, with support from specialists across the multidisciplinary hospital, and suits both recent graduates and experienced veterinarians.

Key responsibilities

• Work a flexible rotating roster aligned with the needs of the Emergency and Critical Care service, including day and night shifts, weekends and public holidays.
• Under the supervision of experienced ECC veterinarians and specialists, take part in patient triage, diagnostic work-ups, treatment planning and emergency procedures.
• Manage inpatients and communicate with clients and referring veterinarians.
• Take part in clinical teaching, case discussions, journal reviews and scholarly activities, with responsibility increasing progressively.

Required profile

• Veterinary degree from a recognised university and eligibility for veterinary registration in NSW.
• Strong clinical foundation, sound communication skills, resilience and curiosity.
• Genuine interest in Emergency and Critical Care; previous emergency or clinical experience is advantageous but not essential.
