Ventilation and Gas Superintendent

About the role

Grosvenor Mine, an underground steelmaking coal mine in Moranbah, Queensland, is building a team ahead of its planned return to longwall production by Q4 2027. Due to recent internal movements, a Ventilation and Gas Superintendent position has opened up. The role leads ventilation and gas drainage activities, combining technical expertise with practical leadership to support safe underground operations.

Key responsibilities

• Fulfil the responsibilities of the appointed statutory Ventilation Officer, keeping mine ventilation safe and effective.
• Lead ventilation planning, design and optimisation for development and longwall operations.
• Oversee ventilation surveys, gas monitoring and performance analysis, identifying risks and driving timely action.
• Plan and oversee ventilation changes, including installation and maintenance of ventilation control devices.
• Maintain and improve ventilation and gas management plans, standards, procedures and risk controls.
• Provide technical input into gas drainage strategies and mine planning.
• Lead inspections, audits and investigations, turning findings into improvements.
• Coach and develop ventilation personnel and raise ventilation awareness across teams.

Required profile

• Queensland-recognised Ventilation Officer qualification and current Practising Certificate for the statutory appointment.
• Demonstrated underground coal mining experience with strong ventilation and gas management expertise.
• Sound understanding of Queensland coal mining legislation and site Safety and Health Management Systems.
• Experience in ventilation planning, monitoring systems, gas drainage and operational risk management.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to build relationships across technical, operational and leadership teams.
