Underground Longwall Mining Engineer

About the role

Anglo American Steelmaking Coal is looking for an underground longwall Mining Engineer for its high-performance underground operation in the Bowen Basin, Queensland. The role plans and delivers technical advice that supports strategic decisions, optimises mine scheduling and performance, and works closely with the Technical Service Superintendent on technical challenges and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver best-practice mining engineering services and support, supporting Zero Harm by ensuring compliance with safety systems and legislation
• Ensure Technical Services Mining is fit for purpose, bridging the gap between design and practical application
• Work across strata control and ventilation to keep underground conditions safe and compliant, and help develop systems for airflow and strata monitoring
• Apply relevant technology to enhance resource value, including developing a strategy for implementation and ongoing maintenance
• Plan and coordinate mine planning and production review meetings with site stakeholders
• Maintain high standards in underground environmental controls to support production goals

Required profile

• Degree-qualified Mining Engineer (or equivalent)
• Extensive operating experience in underground coal mining
• Detailed understanding of coal mining processes and working knowledge of relevant mining legislation
• Previous experience in underground mining operations, preferably coal
• High level of planning and problem-solving ability

Required skills

• Experience with mine planning tools
• Strata control and ventilation knowledge
