Undergraduate Engineering Internship 2027

About the role

Cummins is offering a 13-month paid undergraduate engineering internship at its Perth Airport office, starting 27 January 2027. It is designed for students who want to start a career in data, software and cloud engineering, working with industrial data from carbon-reduction technology used on large mining equipment. You will collaborate with engineers in software development, cloud infrastructure, edge computing and analytics, and help build data products from real vehicle telemetry.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and test software solutions using languages such as Python and C#
• Work with AWS cloud services and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform
• Help build and maintain data pipelines that process and analyse vehicle telemetry
• Analyse and validate telemetry data to find quality issues and support engineering investigations
• Build internal tools, automation solutions and data visualisations
• Write automated tests and take part in code reviews
• Assist with troubleshooting, monitoring and continuous improvement of edge and cloud platform components
• Create and maintain technical documentation and engineering guides
• Prototype approaches to processing, analysing and presenting telemetry data
• Collaborate with experienced engineers in agile development

Required profile

• Currently studying a bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Computer Engineering or a related discipline
• Between 1 and 8 units of study left as of January 2027
• Able to commit to the full 13 months and willing to defer studies for that period

Required skills

• Exposure to Python, C#, Java or similar programming languages
• Interest in cloud platforms, data engineering and software development
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail and good communication
