Trade Instructor

About the role

Queensland Corrective Services is recruiting a Trade Instructor on a full-time basis. The role combines supervising prisoners' daily behaviour and activities with supporting their rehabilitation through work and industry programs, while maintaining the security of the centre or facility.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise prisoners' behaviour and activities daily in line with the centre's routine, and assess their needs while considering traditional cultural values
• Develop productive relationships with staff, management, professionals, police and other agencies
• Assist in prisoner rehabilitation by overseeing work or activities and contributing to case management
• Identify prisoners at risk and report incidents, behaviour and notifiable incidents for sentence management
• Take part in prisoner reception, induction and discharge, and provide training on workshop and industry activities
• Coordinate and schedule prisoner activities to meet quality and production targets, and oversee production of goods and services
• Restrain and control non-compliant prisoners in line with policy, and complete annual control and restraint training
• Monitor and maintain security requirements, search prisoners, escort them internally and externally, and respond to emergencies and security breaches
• Prepare incident reports, equipment reports and accurate records, and take part in procurement and stock control
• Help prepare operational plans, budget estimates and budget management for industry financial resources
• Comply with QCS policy, procedures and legislation, including the Code of Conduct, and wear the QCS uniform
