Teacher – Autism-Specific School (Ashford)

About the role

Aspect (Autism Spectrum Australia) is recruiting teachers for its Treetop School in Ashford, South Australia, which places about 90 students on the autism spectrum aged 4 to 16 years. The school is the only autism-specific education program in Adelaide from Reception to Year 10. Positions are full-time, five days a week, starting in 2027: one 12-month position covering all of 2027 and one 6-month position in Semester 1, 2027.

Key responsibilities

• Create a learning environment tailored to each student's individual needs using evidence-informed best practice in autism education.
• Work with small classes, with the support of a dedicated teacher aide.
• Collaborate with the student, family, teacher aide and other professionals such as the school psychologist, speech therapists and occupational therapists to design and deliver quality learning programs.

Required profile

• Teachers Registration Board of South Australia (TRB) registration to teach in SA.
• Special education qualifications preferred, but all applications considered.
• Experience working with students on the autism spectrum or with other intellectual disabilities desirable.
• South Australian Working with Children Check clearance for paid employment; an international police clearance may be required.
