Threat Detection Analyst (Japanese Speaking Desirable)

About the role

Fastly is hiring a Threat Detection Analyst for its Customer Security Operations Centre, acting as a frontline defender for global enterprise customers. The analyst monitors traffic, detects sophisticated anomalies and deploys real-time mitigations against DDoS, bot and web application attacks, working as a strategic partner for Managed Security Service (MSS) clients. The role is remote, based in Australia, with availability during core business hours (Tuesday to Saturday, 10am-6pm AEST and 11am-7pm AEDT) and travel to the US and internationally as required.

Key responsibilities

• Lead incident response: identify and mitigate high-impact security events, analysing traffic patterns and applying rate limiting and custom WAF and security rules.
• Serve as primary security consultant for MSS customers, continuously tuning security policies to improve detection accuracy and maintain a hardened posture.
• Conduct threat hunting using log analysis to find potential threats and hardening opportunities.
• Write After Action Reports and monthly security summaries, turning telemetry and attack data into actionable insights for customers.
• Act as Subject Matter Expert during active incidents, guiding customers clearly and professionally.

Required profile

• Understanding of the OWASP Top 10 and advanced attack vectors such as credential stuffing, API abuse and Layer 7 DDoS.
• Ability to interpret raw payloads and tell malicious traffic from legitimate traffic.
• Methodical approach to digital forensics and incident response, able to correlate data in JSON or CSV logs.
• Clear communication of complex technical findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Japanese speaking is desirable.

Required skills

• Deep knowledge of HTTP/S, TCP/IP, DNS and TLS, including handshakes, headers and status codes.
• Nice to have: Python or Bash for log parsing and automation, Terraform or edge configuration, and CompTIA CySA+, GCIH or Security+ certification.
