Technician – Indigenous Graduate (s105)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Indigenous graduate to join the Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Information Technology as a Technician. The role provides hands‑on technical support for design, manufacturing, fabrication and engineering trade functions, supporting research and teaching infrastructure at our St Lucia campus.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate technical activities and apply workshop skills in a training environment.
• Safely operate hand tools, laser cutter, drills, saws and other equipment.
• Assist senior staff with routine fabrication, training duties and set‑up of complex experimental equipment.
• Carry out major or complex fabrication tasks under routine direction.
• Maintain cleanliness of workshop areas, equipment and facilities.
• Support safe and efficient operation of workshop infrastructure, methodologies and protocols.
• Apply safe storage, handling and disposal techniques for chemicals, equipment and samples.
• Use technical and engineering knowledge to support research and skills training.

Required profile

• Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander applicant.
• Recent graduate with strong motivation and ability to work under routine direction.
• Commitment to health and safety standards in a workshop environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency with hand tools, laser cutter, drills and saws.
• Fabrication and equipment set‑up experience.
• Safe chemical handling and disposal techniques.
• Practical engineering or technical knowledge applicable to research environments.

What we offer

• Full‑time permanent position (HEW Level 4) with a salary range $79,096.42 – $83,863.22 per year plus 17 % superannuation.
