Technical Writer

About the role

Raytheon Australia, a partner in Australia's defence capabilities for over 20 years, sustains and modernises the Australian Defence Air Traffic System (ADATS), which provides air traffic control for the RAAF. It is seeking an experienced Technical Writer to work with its engineers and turn complex technical documentation into clear technical manuals that help the Australian Defence Force carry out its missions safely and effectively. The position is hybrid.

Key responsibilities

• Author system, operation and maintenance technical publications for electronic, electrical, mechanical and other equipment
• Manage technical publications data
• Lead the management and review of subcontractor and supplier technical publications
• Manage technical illustrations for publications
• Assist with schedule status
• Produce and manage all standard operating procedural material
• Ensure publications conform to standards and specifications

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in technical publications or authoring, in a Defence or engineering-related field
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
• Ability to build trusted working relationships
• Ability to work autonomously, managing own time and tasks
• Eligible to obtain and maintain an Australian Defence security clearance

Required skills

• Desirable: experience with the S1000D Technical Publication Management System
• Desirable: trade or technical background
• Desirable: XML authoring experience
• Desirable: structured authoring and/or configuration management experience
• Desirable: collaboration platforms such as Microsoft SharePoint
