Technical Writer - Defence Program

About the role

An experienced Technical Writer is sought to join Raytheon Australia's JP9347 program team, which is accountable to the ILS Manager and responsible for the design and development of the JIC System Support. The role works within a dedicated acquisition program team delivering a new capability to the ADF, is based at the Raytheon Australia Brisbane facility, and is hybrid.

Key responsibilities

• Write and re-write technical documents such as technical procedure manuals, software manuals and operational specifications.
• Author, operator and maintenance technical publications for electronic, electrical, mechanical and other equipment.
• Assist in managing technical publications data.
• Assist in managing and reviewing subcontractor and supplier technical publications.
• Assist with technical illustrations for publications.
• Ensure publications conform to standards and specifications, including S1000D.

Required profile

• Technical trade experience or demonstrated experience in a technical publications discipline.
• Desirable: experience authoring technical publications in a Defence or engineering-related field.
• Desirable: knowledge of Defence-related publication standards, including ADF technical publications.
• Strong attention to detail, problem-solving ability and ability to build trusted working relationships.
• Ability to work autonomously, managing own time and tasks.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain an Australian Defence Security Clearance.

Required skills

• Writing and rewriting technical documents.
• Experience with the S1000D Technical Publication Management System.
