Technical Service Engineer – Level 3 (Canberra)

About the role

The Level 3 Technical Service Engineer will sustain, support and continuously improve critical on‑premises virtualisation and hyper‑converged infrastructure platforms for government ICT environments. Reporting to the Compute Technical Lead, you will ensure compute systems remain performant, secure, resilient and highly available.

Key responsibilities

• Provide day‑to‑day support and sustainment of compute platforms including Nutanix, VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper‑V.
• Monitor and maintain performance, health and availability of compute clusters and host infrastructure.
• Undertake proactive capacity management and platform tuning.
• Administer backup platforms (HYCU, Data Protection Manager), ensuring successful jobs and regular recovery testing.
• Support operations across multiple secure government environments and participate in on‑call duties for Defence exercises.
• Collaborate on‑site with ADF, APS and contractor personnel.
• Respond to incidents, service requests and environment‑specific issues, assisting in troubleshooting and recovery.
• Plan, test and implement changes under established change management processes.

Required profile

• NV1 security clearance (upgradeable to NV2) is essential.
• Proven experience in supporting on‑premises virtualisation and hyper‑converged infrastructure.
• Ability to work on‑site with government clients and collaborate with defence and public service teams.
• Willingness to participate in occasional on‑call duties for Defence exercises.
