Technical Lead SRE (Hands On)

About the role

A leading global research, technology and trading firm is hiring a Technical Lead SRE in Sydney (CBD, on-site). The firm's infrastructure powers ultra-low latency, high-throughput, mission-critical systems at scale, and its culture is flat: every engineer is both an individual contributor and a leader. The role is permanent and full-time, with international travel and a follow-the-sun on-call model.

Key responsibilities

• Architect, build and operate ultra-low latency, mission-critical infrastructure
• Lead from the front: code, debug, tune and deploy every day
• Mentor, coach and uplift engineers through pair debugging, reviews and teaching
• Own cross-functional projects end to end, from design through rollout and ongoing optimisation
• Shape best practices, tooling, standards and incident response strategies across the tech stack
• Work on call in a global follow-the-sun rotation

Required profile

• Strong experience in SRE, DevOps, operations or infrastructure engineering in high-scale, high-performance environments
• Demonstrated ability to lead technically while keeping individual contributor excellence
• T-shaped mindset: deep in one or two core domains, broad across the stack
• Problem-solving under pressure and clear communication across teams

Required skills

• Linux internals, performance tuning, kernel behaviour, scheduling, I/O and memory
• Network expertise: routing, VLAN, multicast, Ethernet, LLDP
• Coding and scripting in Python, Bash or Shell; C++ or other systems languages are a plus
