Technical Director – Environment and Planning

About the role

AECOM is seeking a Technical Director to lead environmental impact assessments for major infrastructure projects across renewable energy, transport, water and industrial sectors in NSW. You will shape technical direction, build client partnerships and drive growth for the Sydney EIA team.

Key responsibilities

• Act as senior technical leader and strategic adviser, providing guidance across complex approval pathways.
• Take accountability for performance, growth and development of the Sydney EIA team.
• Lead major projects from pursuit to delivery, including bid shaping and winning work.
• Mentor consultants, strengthening technical and commercial capability across the group.

Required profile

• Proven experience delivering environmental projects in NSW with strong knowledge of planning and approval pathways.
• Ability to assume Project Director responsibilities, managing scope, schedule, budget and risk.
• Leadership capability with a track record of guiding teams.
• Strong technical foundation, ideally with REP accreditation or progress towards it, supported by relevant tertiary qualifications.

Required skills

• Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) expertise.
• Knowledge of State and Commonwealth EIA requirements.
• Project management and risk assessment.
