Team Leader Radiation – Principal Research Scientist

About the role

The Radiation research program assesses radiation impacts from uranium mining on the public and the environment. This senior role leads the radiation team, overseeing staff, budget, projects and resources to deliver high‑quality research and monitoring.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage the radiation team’s work programme, including staffing, budgeting and project delivery.
• Determine sampling and analysis requirements and conduct field and laboratory investigations.
• Evaluate radionuclide datasets and publish findings in peer‑reviewed journals.
• Engage with stakeholders, technical forums and international bodies such as the IAEA.
• Develop collaborations with government agencies, industry partners and universities.
• Provide expert advice on regulatory applications in line with national and international radiation protection standards.

Required profile

• Expert knowledge of radioactive decay processes and radiation exposure pathways relevant to uranium mining.
• Deep understanding of national and international best‑practice recommendations for radiation protection.
• Proven experience conducting radiation impact assessments for the public and environment.
• Recognised leader in radioecology or radiation protection with a strong publication record.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a research programme, including staff and budget.
• Excellent leadership, mentoring and collaboration skills.
