Team Leader – Environmental Compliance

About the role

We are looking for an enthusiastic emerging leader to head a small team of Compliance Officers in our Townsville CBD office. The role supports the delivery of environmental compliance services across North Queensland, covering a diverse range of industries and remote locations.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and mentor a team of compliance officers conducting assessments against the Environmental Protection Act 1994, Coastal Protection and Management Act 1995, Waste Reduction and Recycling Act 2011 and Queensland Heritage Act 1992.
• Conduct proactive site inspections, attend stakeholder meetings and lead reactive investigations in regional and remote sites.
• Provide technical advice and develop compliance strategies for complex environmental issues.
• Participate in the local compliance leadership team to review processes, identify improvements and drive continuous improvement.
• Travel overnight to active mine sites, industrial locations and departmental offices; join an on‑call incident response roster as required.

Required profile

• University degree (undergraduate or postgraduate) in environmental management, environmental engineering, or a closely related science discipline.
• Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience, preferably in a compliance or regulatory setting.
• Willingness to obtain official recognition for overseas qualifications if applicable.

Required skills

• Knowledge of Queensland environmental legislation, including the Environmental Protection Act 1994, Coastal Protection and Management Act 1995, Waste Reduction and Recycling Act 2011 and Queensland Heritage Act 1992.
