Team Leader Construction Crew

About the role

The Council is seeking a Construction Team Leader to oversee road, drainage and other civil construction activities. This permanent, full‑time position provides operational leadership to a small crew delivering in‑house civil projects while ensuring safety, quality and customer focus.

Key responsibilities

• Perform labouring duties on road, drainage and civil construction projects within set timeframes.
• Provide prompt guidance and technical support to team members, including junior staff.
• Develop strong relationships with supervisors and frontline employees.
• Problem‑solve and implement solutions using industry knowledge.
• Promote a safety‑first culture and ensure compliance with OH&S regulations and codes of practice.
• Assist the Site Supervisor in leading field staff and subcontractors to achieve high‑quality outcomes.
• Identify improvement opportunities and support their implementation.
• Use and maintain required safety equipment and plant.

Required profile

• Proven ability to supervise and direct a construction team.
• Effective communication skills for giving instructions and basic written reporting.
• Experience resolving on‑site problems and adapting to new situations.
• Ability to plan work, manage time and perform manual tasks safely.
• Experience or qualifications in road and drainage construction/maintenance.
• Current Victorian driver’s licence.
• Willingness to undergo a National Police Check and pre‑employment medical assessment.
