Systems Engineering Manager

About the role

Collins Aerospace, a business of RTX, is looking for a Systems Engineering Manager to lead a team of experienced engineering professionals at its Lane Cove West, NSW site. Reporting to the Head of Engineering, the manager is a hands-on leader who also contributes to engineering work, ensuring that systems engineering services meet company and Australian defence program requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop the team, supporting career growth while meeting project and customer requirements aligned with company values.
• Apply systems engineering expertise to deliver timely project outcomes and produce high-quality technical documentation.
• Review capabilities, performance, capacity, processes and system requirements against current and future needs, and manage departmental budget gaps with management.
• Champion new engineering practices, plans, techniques and technologies to drive continuous improvement.
• Work with internal and external stakeholders to keep programs on time and in full, and deliver associated products and services.
• Produce engineering work of a high standard as a technical contributor.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of Science or other applicable degree.
• Prior technical leadership of engineering projects involving product development across complex systems, including full system integration.
• Proven ability to represent the company as a technical expert before stakeholders, including formal and informal presentations to frontline and senior executives.
• Proven background mentoring, supporting and leading teams, and making programmatic and technical decisions accurately and on time.
• Eligibility to obtain and maintain an Australian Defence Security Clearance (NV1 standing).
• Australian citizenship and eligibility to comply with US ITAR technology access requirements.

Required skills

• Desirable: experience with command, control and communications systems in a defence environment; tactical data links highly regarded.
• Desirable: experience covering the full systems development process, from requirements capture through design, decomposition, integration and verification/validation to production transition.
• Desirable: familiarity with agile and DEVSECOPS engineering development.
