System Administrator (Canberra, 24‑month contract)

About the role

We are looking for a Systems Administrator to join a Federal Government department in Canberra on a 24‑month contract (with possible extensions). The role is hands‑on, focusing on the management and security of a mixed virtualised and physical compute and storage environment.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and troubleshoot VMware ESXi, vCenter and VCF infrastructure.
• Administer Windows Server (2016/2022/2025) environments, including Active Directory, Group Policy, WSUS and OS image management for Windows 10/11.
• Manage backup solutions such as NetBackup and ensure compliance with security standards.
• Provision and allocate resources across physical and virtual tenancies.
• Develop and maintain automation scripts using PowerShell and PowerCLI.
• Support ancillary services including Microsoft SharePoint, Exchange, Azure/Office 365, Nutanix/HCI and Linux (RHEL) systems.

Required profile

• Strong hands‑on experience with VMware ESXi 7+ and related management tools.
• Proficiency in Windows Server administration and related Microsoft technologies.
• Significant PowerShell scripting ability.
• Understanding of networking concepts (CCNA or equivalent).
• Ability to work onsite in Canberra and collaborate with government IT teams.
