Switchboard Operator/Receptionist

About the role

The Switchboard Operator/Receptionist is the first point of contact for patients, visitors and staff at Footscray Hospital. Working within the Western Health network, you will manage a busy telephone switchboard, provide courteous reception services and support a range of administrative tasks in a fast‑paced healthcare environment.

Key responsibilities

• Answer and direct a high‑volume telephone switchboard promptly and professionally.
• Provide clear assistance to patients, carers, visitors and staff, ensuring a positive experience.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of patient and organisational information.
• Stay up‑to‑date with hospital departments and services to route calls accurately.
• Support reception duties and adhere to service standards and KPIs.
• Work on a rotational roster, including availability on Christmas Day.

Required profile

• Excellent verbal communication and telephone etiquette.
• Strong knowledge of hospital departments and services.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
• Flexibility to work varied shifts, including holidays.
