Structural Steel Estimator

About the role

A privately owned Queensland fabricate-and-erect contractor with more than 40 years in medium to heavy structural steel is looking for a Structural Steel Estimator in Brisbane. The company has delivered stadium, transport and commercial projects across South East Queensland and has a strong pipeline into the Brisbane 2032 build-out. The role is permanent and full-time.

Key responsibilities

• Own tenders from drawings to submission, pricing supply, fabrication and erection packages accurately and competitively
• Complete steel take-offs and build up costs for material, fabrication, surface treatment, freight, craning and erection
• Source and assess supplier and subcontractor quotes
• Prepare clear tender submissions and price variations on live jobs
• Attend tender meetings, site visits and post-tender negotiations
• Work with the Directors on bid/no-bid decisions, margin and risk
• Hand over won jobs to the project manager and detailing team with clean, well-documented estimates

Required profile

• 3+ years estimating structural steel with a fabricator or fabricate-and-erect contractor
• Confident reading structural and architectural drawings and specifications
• Solid understanding of fabrication, connections, surface treatment and erection methods
• Sharp numeracy and commercial sense to judge whether a price is right
• Able to juggle multiple tenders and meet deadlines
