Staff Specialist / VMO - Emergency Medicine & General Medicine

About the role

Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) is recruiting a Staff Specialist or Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) in emergency medicine and general medicine, based at Leeton, Deniliquin and Young hospitals. Flexible arrangements are offered, from one or more days per week to block weeks each month or quarter, so that the schedule fits the applicant's availability while meeting patient needs.

Key responsibilities

• As a GP VMO: provide admitting, consultative, diagnostic, procedural, outpatient, telehealth and on-call services, and be available during rostered hours and on-call, including handovers, supervision, teaching and emergency and routine care.
• Offer education and support to clinicians across disciplines, promoting quality education and safe clinical practice.
• As a physician (general medicine) at Leeton Hospital: provide specialist inpatient care, ward rounds, outpatient support and ED collaboration, manage acute and chronic presentations, the oncology/infusion clinic and Hospital in the Home, and work closely with GP VMOs for safe patient transfers.

Required profile

• MBBS or equivalent, with current registration as a Specialist in General Practice, Emergency Medicine or Rural & Remote Medicine, or General Registration with at least seven years' experience as a senior medical officer in a regional or rural NSW emergency department.
• Compliance with CPD requirements as a GP.
• Knowledge of acute and chronic condition management and competence in urgent minor procedures common in rural emergency departments, including Advanced Life Support and trauma management.
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and lead others, with a commitment to teaching, research and quality improvement.
• Willingness to join an on-call roster and respond on site within a reasonable time.

What we offer

• VMO: up to $247.30/hour (GP rate) or $275.85/hour (specialist rate), with progression to Senior Specialist VMO rates of up to $293.75/hour; eligible contracts of 40 hours per week for 48 weeks.
• Staff Specialist: permanent-style entitlements including superannuation, leave and relocation support, with a base salary of up to $299,825 plus super and allowances.
• Work in varied cases and procedures, collegiate teams, and regional towns such as Leeton and Young.
