Staff Specialist – General Medicine

About the role

The Department of Health (DoH) North West is seeking an experienced Staff Specialist in General Medicine to provide clinical leadership across two major hospitals serving a population of about 116,000.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver acute and sub‑acute general medicine services at North West Regional Hospital and Mersey Community Hospital.
• Provide specialty services in cardiology, infectious diseases, gastroenterology, respiratory, nephrology, endocrinology, geriatric medicine and palliative care as required.
• Lead and support the undergraduate general medical education program in partnership with the University of Tasmania Rural Clinical School.

Required profile

• Current specialist registration or recognised overseas specialist qualification with sufficient experience.
• Recent experience in an acute hospital setting and sound knowledge of current general medicine practice.
• Valid driver’s licence.

Required skills

• Ability to provide specialty services within allocated clinical privileges.
• Leadership and teaching capability for undergraduate medical education.

What we offer

• Salary range $222,789 – $319,701 per annum (pro‑rated) plus 12% superannuation.
