Staff Software Engineer - Mobile Platform

About the role

Canva is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to lead the development of its portable mobile libraries that power iOS, Android and web experiences. You will work at the intersection of mobile expertise and systems programming, building high‑performance, safe libraries in Rust and C++ that are consumed by product teams across the company.

Key responsibilities

• Define, design and implement portable libraries that run on iOS, Android and web from a single codebase.
• Write production‑grade code in Rust and C++ with a focus on performance, safety and reliability.
• Collaborate with a technical leadership group of Staff engineers to shape the mobile platform’s direction.
• Stay hands‑on, delivering code rather than only architectural diagrams.
• Communicate library interfaces and ergonomics to frontend engineers who use higher‑level languages.

Required profile

• Deep experience in mobile development combined with strong systems‑programming skills.
• Proven ability to work independently on complex, performance‑critical codebases.
• Excellent technical communication skills for cross‑team collaboration.
• Comfortable working in a hybrid environment and contributing to a fast‑moving product team.
